Drawing with Paint
A regular sketchbook practice over time has increased the vocabulary of marks that appear in my work. Often a work is created from scribbled beginnings, meandering across and around the page as conversations develop from one mark to the next, or perhaps from one painting to the next. To me, it is similar to writing thoughts in a journal in handwriting that was at one time derived from many thoughts, perhaps contemplating serious worldly problems or as simple as thinking about what color, what thickness, or what direction the next turn of the wrist will take.
